For our vegan decaf chai recipe, we recommend using fair trade and organic ingredients. It considerably ups the bliss quotient knowing that your hot beverage is helping farmers make a decent and healthy living.
It's worth taking 5 - 10 minutes to make your own decaf chai latté. Not only is it fresh, delicious, and inexpensive (compared to buying a cup), it's also super easy!
Cooking Tips: The cocoa is a nice touch, but leave it out if you're not a chocolate person. You can use a lot less sugar that way. Use 1/2 the amount of agave nectar instead of sugar if you'd rather.
If you LIKE caffeine, use 1 tsp loose black tea, plus a cinnamon stick, 6 whole cloves and 4 green cardamom pods. Strain the tea when serving.
Directions are for 2 servings. To increase the recipe, multiply the ingredients by two, three, four or whatever. Kids can drink this chai too, because it's de-caf. Makes a nice change from hot chocolate!
