Vegan Dinner Rolls For Thanksgiving Dinner

Fluffy pale golden globes, crusty on the outside, chewy on the inside

Dinner Rolls

People used to make & eat dinner rolls all the time. Now we eat rolls mainly at restaurants, and holiday meals like Thanksgiving.

Total prep & cook time: 90 min. Dough Rising: 1-2 Hours

12 Servings

Nutrition Data Per Serving (1 roll) (based on white flour): 115 calories, 24g carbohydrate, 0 g fat, 195 mg sodium, 1g dietary fiber, 3g protein. Very low saturated fat & cholesterol, Estimated glycemic load: 17

Dinner Roll Ingredients:

  • 3 cups all-purpose flour (unbleached, enriched) (or 1/2 whole grain flour)
  • 1 package instant yeast (2 1/2 tsp)
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1 cup warm water

Directions:

  • Mix dry ingredients together in a bowl
  • Mix in water with a wooden spoon
  • Continue incorporating the water by hand
  • If more water is needed add 1 tablespoon of water at a time until the dough holds together in a ball

  • Place the dough on a clean surface and knead for 10 minutes until the dough is smooth and resists kneading
  • Cover and allow to rise in a warm place (not the oven) until doubled in size (1-2 hours)
  • Punch dough down and knead for a few minutes
  • Cover and allow the dough to rest 20 minutes
  • Shape dough into 1 1/2 inch balls
  • Place the balls on an oiled cookie sheet, cover and allow to proof for 30 minutes
  • Preheat oven to 375 degrees F
  • Make an angled slash 1/4 inch deep into the top of each roll
  • Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden
  • Remove from pan and cool on racks
