Tips for Happy Holiday Meals

Don't serve all these recipes at one meal! If you pick one main dish, one veggie dish, salad, cashew gravy, stuffing or bread, cranberry sauce, one dessert, and a couple of low fat appetizers - you'll still have a lavish meal.

If you're seriously watching your weight, don't avoid holiday dining, and don't starve yourself. You know that never works anyway. Neither does guilt. Stick with the time tested strategy: go for the lower calorie vegan options, and take smaller portions.

For vegans and vegetarians, getting through a holiday meal can be challenging for other reasons.

Every holiday has traditional dishes, usually meat or dairy based, and every holiday gathering has at least one guest (not always the non-vegetarian!), who is offended that you aren’t eating the same as them.

For clues on how to dine peacefully in mixed company, read the Savvy Vegetarian Report Veg and Non-Veg Eat Together.
